About

This site is written and produced by Dan Trimble. I write essays, opinions and coverage of news, politics, industry, and social or cultural issues of the day. The site no longer includes my photography and personal projects, both of which, in time, will be available separately.

The views and opinions expressed on this site are strictly those of the author and not of the United States government. My work here is not representative of the government in any way, nor my affiliation or employment with the government.

About the Author
Working with The Convere Group, DanDaniel Trimble is presently a business, politics, and policy professional focused on political campaigns and businesses building public-benefit technologies for government efficiency, homeland security, and others. Before turning to his deep convictions in public service, he worked for the past 15 years in Fortune 1000, entrepreneurial, and non-profit organizations, developing business, marketing, research and writing skills. His political radar was honed as executive director of a political and policy advocacy organization for entrepreneurial leaders in California, working to join business and government leaders on free market policy development. Dan also serves as a commissioned officer in the United States Coast Guard Reserve, presently assigned to contingency planning and force readiness for Sector San Francisco. He previously served as a “Sea Marshal” at Sector San Francisco and had earlier roles in communications at Port Security Unit 312, and as Homeland Security Watch Officer for the Pacific Area Command Center. He started his Coast Guard career managing search and rescue cases for the 11th District Command Center, where he helped save 322 lives. The sixth generation of his family born in San Francisco, growing up in nearby San Rafael, Dan later studied international business and public administration at Golden Gate University. He deeply loves his work but doesn’t sit around analyzing data or policy in his spare time; well, at least not all of it. He is an avid traveler, sailor, equestrian, traveler, photographer, skier, traveler, and a wannabe cook. Oh yeah, he really enjoys traveling as well.

Colophon

This site is running the open source Wordpress blogging system, version 2.7 with some of my own modifications for content management. I have become happily accustomed to Wordpress after several years on other commercial blogging software.

The blog design was modified from my licensed version of Gridline Magazine from Thad Allender. Most of the images I’ve used were licensed from iStockPhoto or Corbis, except those in the Photography section or otherwise noted. I use a large variety of camera equipment from traditional film-based SLRs and a Cannon PowerShot SD950-IS 12.5 megapixel digital.

All of my sites run on a server hosted by pair Networks, an exceptional Web host I have been with more than a decade. The server runs FreeBSD 6.2, Apache and MySQL. I do almost all of my updates and other work from either my Apple MacBook Pro, an iPhone, or my Nokia E61i. Primarily, content work is done directly within Wordpress. Coding is usually through BBEdit and image work with Adobe Photoshop CS2.
